SAUGUS — The town announced that a sewer rehabilitation project will begin on Feb. 2 and go until Feb. 6 for work specifically related to subsystem 3A.
This will include cleaning and lining the sewer lines in the subsystem. Repairs will also be made to remove excess water inflow and infiltration.
Work will occur near the intersection of Main Street and Forest Street on Feb. 2, between Route 1 and Newhall Avenue on Main Street from Feb. 3-5, and on Vine Street extending from the Main Street intersection on Feb. 6.
Cleaning and repairing sewer lines will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. on these days. Drivers and resident can expect traffic impact in the work zones with police details mitigating traffic disruptions, according to the town.
This project is meant to eliminate water sources leaking into the system, straining the capacity and causing sanitary sewer overflows. These leaks also increase the cost of transportation and treatment of the overflows.
The rehabilitation will help improve the structural integrity of the area.
Those with questions about the project can contact Town Engineer Kevin Hallion at 781-231-4032.
