WEEKEND ROUNDUP: KIPP’s boys basketball team takes care of business against Nantucket

Just three points away from 1,000, KIPP’s Trosky Peña scored a game-high 33 points on home hardwood to lead the boys basketball team past Nantucket, 69-59, on Saturday. KIPP visits Bishop Fenwick at 6:30 p.m. on Monday with Peña surely eyeing the mark.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Shawsheen Valley Tech 58
Lynnfield 40

Despite 10 points from Alex Fleming and another eight from Madux Iovinelli, host Lynnfield fell short and dipped to 8-4.

BOYS HOCKEY

Lynn 2
Everett 2

Tyler Whitten found the back of the net twice – assists coming from Nathan Silva and John Crowley – as the Jets skated to a tie at Connery Rink.

Lynnfield 3
Pentucket 2

Owen Considine, Lucas Deraps, and Anthony Calla (GWG) all scored in Lynnfield’s narrow win on enemy ice.

Winthrop 3
Marblehead 1

The Vikings took down the Headers, despite a strong performance from Marblehead’s London McDonald (goal). Netminder Leo Burdge played well between the pipes and delivered an assist for the Headers.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Bishop Stang 3
St. Mary’s 2

Bishop Stang scored in overtime to send the Spartans home empty-handed on Saturday. St. Mary’s was led by goal-scorers Keira Twomey and Alyssa Norden.

Peabody-Lynnfield-North Reading 3
Beverly 0

Captain Mia Lava led by example in this one, scoring two goals to lead visiting PLNR over Beverly. Chloe Gromko tucked the first goal of the game, while Maura Flaws and Sydney Zizza also played well, according to coach Michelle Roach.

SWIMMING AND DIVING

Lynn Classical-Lynn English 94
Revere 55

Lynn’s co-op was victorious against Revere at the Lynn Tech pool. The 200 medley relay team of Kaydee Rouse, Madisen McHale, David Gamero, and Jackson Gaitlin finished first, while the 200 freestyle came with a 1-2-3 sweep with Jason Silva finishing first, Amanda Hughes second, and Catherine Bushway third. Rouse finished first in the 200 IM. Lynn also had a 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle with Solomon Srey finishing first and Gamero second.
