LYNN — The Fire Department responded to a fire that broke out inside a three-story apartment building at 33 High St. Sunday evening.
At 6:11 p.m., the Lynn Fire Regional Dispatch Center received notice that the fire alarm at the building had been activated. The Fire Department dispatched an engine and a ladder truck, which was the first to arrive. Lt. Dave Stanley reported a fire in the building, prompting the need for more help.
When the engine arrived at High Street, Capt. Mike Noon saw smoke emanating from the third floor. He then ordered a working fire.
A working fire means that there is a confirmed fire on the premises, which requires additional support. In all, two additional engines, two ladder trucks, the district chief, and a safety officer were called to High Street to offer assistance. Medic personnel who provide support with search, rescue and ventilation also came on the scene to ensure redundancy in safety protocols, Lt. Denis Ring said.
Ring added that the fire was in the stairwell leading up to the top floor. Firefighters kept the fire confined to the top floor and roof area and brought it under control within 30 minutes. The scene was cleared within an hour and 20 minutes.
Atlantic EMS also responded with an ambulance at High Street. There were no reported injuries.
The fire is under investigation by the Fire Department and Fire Investigation Unit.
