SWAMPSCOTT — Big Blue Bargains Thrift Store has announced a grand opening for its new Swampscott location at 155 Norfolk Ave. The event on Feb. 1 will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“Big Blue Bargains is a registered 501(c)3, dedicated to supporting the Swampscott community by addressing evolving needs, and promoting sustainability through the reuse of materials,” Vice President Laura Lynn said. “We strive to create a more resilient and connected community for all.”

According to Lynn, the store had humble beginnings. It began operating in 2012 at Swampscott Middle School, lasting for several years until it was forced to close due to the pandemic. The store reopened at 491 Humphrey St. in September 2023. But Lynn said that they lost the location when the building was sold in April 2024.

“We are thrilled to have found a new home, thanks to the town of Swampscott,” Lynn said.

Past beneficiaries include Friends of Swampscott Senior Center, Friends of Swampscott Library, Swampscott Elementary School, as well as the Middle and High School. The organization has been a part of the Swampscott community since 2012, according to its website.
