SWAMPSCOTT — John Clark of the Great American Music Experience has set his sights on the Swampscott Senior Center, located at 200R Essex St.
The Senior Center will be hosting its “Great Ladies of Song” (Part 1) event Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 p.m., which will feature a number of classic hits from the works of vintage artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, and Jo Stafford. The event is free to attend and open to all.
Community members are encouraged to head down to the Senior Center to join in the appreciation of older swing music and the classical songs of Stafford, Lee and others who helped define the sounds of an entire generation.
The Senior Center said that while they are taking reservations via phone until the event starts, any last-minute walk-ins are always more than welcome to come attend.
“I’m really so pleased that we’re hosting the event,” Program Director Sonja Nathan said. The experience is a great chance for residents to come together, make some friends and hear blasts from the past while getting away from the cold, Nathan added.
During the event, Clark will present facts and tidbits about each performer’s background and legacy while also sampling some of their best songs, Nathan said. “We’ve had him before, he’s a great presenter,” she said. “We love having him, because music speaks to everybody.”
“Come to the program for a few rays of sunshine in the midst of a dark January,” Clark said. “We hope it will brighten the day for whoever participates.”
