January 30, 2025 by Joey Barrett

LYNN — The Lynn Youth Indoor Track Meet Series was introduced this week on the Lynn Tech track inside of the Jack Barry Field House. Fifty-five athletes (70 total entries) enjoyed a variety of events: standing long jump, 50y, 50y hurdles, 220y, 300m, 440y, 600m, 880y, 1-mile, and relay.

Salem’s Emmeline Duffy Gruen and Lynn’s Jennifer Matul (age 12) each ran 8s in different heats and had the honor of sharing a win in the girls 50y. Lynn’s Aiden Nerys (age 12) claimed first in the boys 50y in a brisk 7.1s.

Talk about the Murphys of Peabody. Lily (age 13; 35s) and Luke (age 13; 30.2) each placed first in the 220y. Lily was a double-winner, running 3:00.0 in the 880y, while Luke did so in the mile (6:27.0).

The theme continued for the Migonis family of Manchester. The 440y was won by both Elle (age 11; 1:19.0s) and Drew (age 14; 1:17.5). Lynn’s Siena-Rose Summa (age 12, 1:20.0) finished a close second among girls.

Peabody’s Aiden Trainor (age 14; 2:45.0) captured the boys 880y, while Summa won the girls mile (6:58.0).

As for which runner made history and crossed the finish line first, look no further than Winthrop’s Romeo Diaz (age 2). He placed first in heat No. 1 of the 50y in a time of 23s.

The series continues this Sunday at Lynn Tech (Pre-K-8th). It will also take place Feb. 9 and March 9. There will be a 1 p.m. sign-in period and 2 p.m. start, but no registrations will be accepted at the event. Register online at https://lynnma.myrec.com/info/default.aspx
