To the editor:
I can’t add much to the excellent letter from Mr. Sacco in Jan. 29’s Item about Stocker Playground.
However, I would like to point out that the Stocker Family took the time and effort to create a “legally binding document” stating the purpose of this land grant. This document was “presumably” accepted by the town as it was written.
At election time, some candidates list their membership in organizations dealing with the environment. Those officials have been noticeably silent about the possible contamination of a vital waterway like the Saugus River. There can be no benefit to the river or the wildlife remaining in the park from dog excrement.
Much has been written about improvements to Anna Parker Playground. It seems there were ample funds to accomplish this. Stocker Playground has gone without basic maintenance for years. It seems ironic to me to neglect a parcel of land and then claim it needs to be re-purposed because it was neglected!
Sincerely,
Judith Grove
Saugus
