The state tournament came calling for Lynnfield’s boys basketball team (10-4), which secured its spot with a double-digit home win Friday night.

Lynnfield took down Cape Ann League foe North Reading, 59-40, for lucky win No. 10. Leading the Pioneers were Alex Fleming (20 points, 12 rebounds), Zach Pincus (16 points, 4 threes), and Madux Iovinelli (15 points, 14 rebounds).

Next up is a road game in Ipswich at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

No home advantage, no problem for the Tigers, who took down Shawsheen and improved to 6-7. Giovanni Jean – a 1,000-point scorer as of this week – netted 26 points to go with seven assists. Also joining the party were Ulices Diaz (10 points, 12 rebounds), Brandon Antwine (10 points, 5 steals), and Andy Batista (10 points, 4 assists).

The calendar has flipped to the February page, and the Spartans (15-0) remain perfect. They were victorious against Arlington Catholic at the Tony C. Gymnasium behind Jake Fortier (22 points) and JJ Martinez (15).

Malden Catholic 70
St. John’s Prep 53

Despite six points apiece from Ethan Waszkelewicz, Dawagner De Los Santos, and Marcus Magloire, plus another five from Mike Miller, The Prep (1-14) couldn’t find an answer against Malden Catholic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Lynn Classical 54
Neighborhood House Charter School 34

The Lady Rams (12-4) took down Neighborhood House Charter School (Dorchester) by 20 points at home. Divine Egbuta led the way with 17 points and 22 rebounds, while Nevaeh Eth added 10 points and Keisha Perez did a little bit of everything with eight points, seven assists, and nine steals.

“The message is to enjoy the win tonight and we’ve got practice tomorrow,” said Classical coach Tom Sawyer. “Let’s get after it and get ready to go on the road and play Triton.”

That one is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Classical took down Triton, 39-35, in their last meeting.

St. Mary’s 63
Arlington Catholic 40
