LYNN — Ilias “Louie” Mavros was the kind of guy who would give you his last dollar or the shirt off his back, according to his nephew George Fiskatoris.
Now, his family and the Lynn community are left with nothing but the memories of his selflessness and his dream vision come to life, which was opening Crazy Buzzy’s Roast Beef and Seafood on the Lynnway. He was able to do that alongside his two silent partners last October.
“It’s a tragedy,” 23-year-old Fiskatoris said. “This (Crazy Buzzy’s) was his vision that he made happen and it’s too bad he can’t really see it come to fruition like it is. He’s really done a lot; this place is unbelievable.”
Mavros was allegedly murdered in his Lynn home on Stanwood Street at about 6:30 p.m., Monday evening, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office and the Lynn Police Department. Officers were called to do a wellness check on the 48-year-old at the request of family members when they discovered him dead at the scene with apparent signs of trauma.
Walking into the roast beef shop Wednesday, the sadness was evident. The employees were greeted over and over again by customers calling or walking in to share their heartfelt condolences. They consoled each other after each interaction. The girl working the counter said the restaurant was too quiet without his big, buzzing personality in there.
“The customers coming in to say they’re sorry or wanting to talk to us about him, it might make me cry sometimes, but I love it,” Fiskatoris said. “It makes me feel good that people appreciated him, and I don’t know how it is in the afterlife, but if he could see this, I think he would just tear up himself to see how much everyone loves him.”
Crazy Buzzy’s Roast Beef and Seafood will remain open, with Fiskatoris and the two silent partners stepping up to try and fill Mavros’ shoes as best they can. While they don’t have Louie’s “crazy personality, but the good kind,” they will try to match the drive that he had to keep the restaurant buzzing.
Now, in regards to how it happened, an active investigation is currently underway with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to District Attorney Paul F. Tucker’s office, Lynn Police, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. But, while Fiskatoris said the detectives on the case are working day and night on this, and he is so grateful for their commitment to his uncle’s case, he still has his own theories.
“I think it’s someone closer than we think,” he said. “And I’m just going to leave it at that.”
And to whoever killed his beloved uncle, Fiskatoris has one final message; “You’re lucky the cops are going to find you because I would’ve done way worse.”
