Lynn Tech’s swimming and diving team, which hosted Wednesday’s city meet, defeated Lynn Classical-Lynn English, 163-161, in a thriller. Tech sported seven first-place finishes, while Classical-English wasn’t far behind with five.
“Every swimmer counted and they all did the best they could,” said Tech coach John Hogan. “The atmosphere was exciting. It was really awesome and it came down to the final relay. Everyone knew it.”
Yes, the 400 freestyle relay, which was won by Hunter Flores, Colin Newhall, Addisyn Brown, and Isabella Celona to seal it.
Other first-place finishes from Tech came from Flores (200 IM), Johndeiry Cespedes (50 freestyle, diving), Brown (500 freestyle), and Newhall (100 freestyle). Nathalia Ortiz and Hunter Carmody also contributed with second-place finishes.
Brown broke the school record in the 200 freestyle (2:40.25), according to Hogan.
As for Classical-English, Amanda Hughes (100 breaststroke), Kaydee Rouse (100 backstroke), and Jackson Gatlin (100 butterfly) secured first-place finishes, as did the 200 medley relay (Rouse, Maddie McHale, Gatlin, Solomon Srey) and 200 freestyle relay (David Gamero, Jason Silva, Rouse, Srey) teams.
“What a great night for Lynn swimming,” said Classical-English coach Denise Silva. “The stands were packed and the enthusiasm shown by all was exceptional.”

Senior Night was a success for Lynnfield (12-4), which buried Essex Tech by 50 points. Leading the way were Alex Fleming (30 points) and Madux Iovinelli (14).

The Fishermen reeled in a sudden-death overtime win against Lynnfield at Talbot Rink. CJ Anderson and Anthony Calla scored for the Pioneers, but it wasn’t enough against Gloucester’s pair of power-play goals.

A rivalry game was underway inside of the Essex Sports Center, but St. John’s Prep made quick work of Xaverian. Ryan DeLucia registered a hat-trick, while netminder AJ Farese picked up a 30-save shutout. The Prep clinched a share of the Catholic Conference title.

Freshman Sydney Zizza ripped the game’s only goal – with less than a minute remaining, no less – to send PLNR home victorious. Chloe Gromko and Ava Buckley dished out assists, while Alyse Mutti played well between the pipes.
