Athlete of the Week – Alex Fleming – Lynnfield boys basketball

Joey Barrett

February 6, 2025 by Joey Barrett

You know what I’ve been thinking? In a week full of eye-opening basketball trades, Lynnfield’s Alex Fleming is here to stay.

So is his production, as the 6-foot-1, 195-pound wing player had himself quite the week.

The senior delivered as the Pioneers took down Georgetown (56-53), North Reading (59-40), Ipswich (71-43), and Essex Tech (79-29 on Senior Night). The win against traditional archrival North Reading felt extra sweet with the Pioneers clinching a state tournament spot that night.

They now stand at 12-4 with a 12-2 record in the Cape Ann League.

Back to Fleming, who recorded three double-doubles to go with a 30-point performance last week:

Georgetown: 16 points, 12 rebounds
North Reading: 20 points, 12 rebounds
Ipswich: 19 points, 10 rebounds
Essex Tech: 30 points

That’s an average of 21.25 points and 11.3 rebounds across four games. Not bad.

Next up for the Pioneers – who rank No. 20 in the Division 3 power rankings – is a home game against Newburyport (15-1) on Monday. The tough test tips off at 6:30 p.m.

Alex, good week.
