LYNN — Eric German-Pena, 25, of Lynn, has been arrested for the murder of 48-year-old Crazy Buzzy’s owner Ilias Mavros.
Mavros was found in his home on Standwood Street Monday after family members called for a wellness check.
Investigators developed probable cause to charge German-Pena with the murder of Mavros, according to Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker. German-Pena was arraigned Thursday morning at Lynn District Court. Hon. Ina Howard-Hogan presided over the case.
Atty. Michael Phelan represented German-Pena in court on Thursday, stating that his client was pleading not guilty to the charge of murder.
The prosecutor asked that, due to the nature of the offense, German-Pena be held without bail. She also asked that the police report be impounded as the case is ongoing. The act of impounding a police report is to legally restrict public access to the report.
The motion to impound was allowed by Howard-Hogan, and German-Pena was to be held without bail without prejudice.
The next hearing date is set for March 6.
Phelan was unable to comment much on the case, stating that he had just been appointed and did not have much information yet.
“The case is brand new to me. I’ve got a small police report that I can’t share with you, so I really don’t have anything to comment on,” he said.
Phelan has not been able to speak with German-Pena much, but he said that his client was in shock.
“He’s a young kid… 25,” he said. “I’m going to go up to the Middleton House of Correction with an interpreter and sit down and have an interview.”
When asked why the report had been impounded, Phelan said, “This is an ongoing investigation by the District Attorney’s Office, and they feel more comfortable having it impounded.”
