New Lynn Coalition preps for rally

LYNN — The New Lynn Coalition, in collaboration with coalition member organizations and community groups across the North Shore Essex region, is organizing a rally for immigrant rights on Feb. 11 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The rally will begin at Lynn District Court, 580 Essex St., and conclude at Lynn City Hall. The theme, “Defend Our Community! Defend Democracy! Protect Immigrant Rights!” aims to address the pervasive fear of deportation that affects many in the community.

Amid uncertainty, the event will provide a platform for residents, activists, and leaders to demand justice, safety, and the right for all immigrants to live free from fear. Organizers seek to emphasize the importance of upholding the dignity and human rights of immigrant populations, many of whom face the threat of separation from their families and communities.

The event will feature remarks from community leaders, including clergy members, advocates, and representatives from Lynn’s diverse immigrant populations, including Hispanic, African American, Caribbean, Middle Eastern, and Muslim communities, as well as labor unions and advocacy organizations.

These communities have long been integral to the cultural and economic vitality of Lynn and continue to contribute significantly to its growth and development.

“The strength of Lynn lies in the resilience and hard work of its immigrant communities,” said Tanveer Malik, executive director of the New Lynn Coalition. “We must stand united against the injustice and fear that threaten to tear families apart. Every individual deserves to feel safe, valued, and empowered, regardless of their immigration status. This rally is an expression of our commitment to justice, human dignity and the protection of immigrant rights.”

The rally is open to the public, and all who support immigrant rights are encouraged to attend.
