LYNN — Eric German-Pena, 25, who has been arrested for the murder of Ilias Mavros, has been found to be an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic.
German-Pena was arrested on Feb. 5 and appeared in Lynn District Court for his arraignment on Feb. 6 where he plead not guilty for the murder of Mavros, and is now being held without bail.
Monday, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Boston released a statement that they have lodged an immigration detainer against German-Pena.
An immigration detainer is a request from ICE that asks a federal, state or local law enforcement agency — including jails, prisons or other confinement facilities — to notify the requesting agency as early as possible before they release a removable alien. It also asks that the alien be held for up to 48 hours beyond the time they would ordinarily release them so the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has time to assume custody in accordance with federal immigration law, according to ICE’s website.
“Eric Dionida German-Pena will have his day in court, but he stands accused of a very serious and disturbing crime against a member of our Massachusetts community. ICE Boston takes its public safety mission extremely seriously,” ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston acting Field Office Director Patricia H. Hyde said.
She continued to say, “We intend to take German-Pena into ICE custody after he has paid his debt to society. ICE Boston will continue our mission of arresting and removing egregious alien offenders from New England.”
