The Peabody Tanners were present and accounted for in Thursday’s MIAA Division 2 track and field championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. Peabody’s boys (42 points) finished second out of 28 teams, just one point behind Algonquin Regional, while the girls (26 points) placed sixth out of 23 teams.
On the boys’ side, Alex Jackson (1st, 61-03.00) and Areno Saint-Victor (2nd, 52-08.75) went back-to-back in the shot put, while Evan Bedard (2nd, 22-06.75) and Juan Rivera (7th, 20-04.75) showed out in the long jump. Declan Smith placed third in the 1,000m (2:32.85), while Mohammed Lhassouani took sixth, three spots behind Smith, in 2:38.94. Brian Stevens impressed in the 600m (11th, 1:26.84).
For the girls, Makayla Kokonezis took second in the high jump (5-0), Alessandra Forgione finished second in the shot put (38-05.75), Lauren Foley took fourth in the 600m (1:40.59) with Avery Marcus (1:43.02) six spots behind in 10th, Kayley Bunn placed ninth in the 55m (9.43), and Ella Braz placed 10th in the 1,000m (3:12.17).

Central Catholic, after leading by 15 points at halftime, exploded in the second half to take down Lynn English, which was led by Andrew Karoma (11 points).
Marblehead 53
Malden 46
With Marblehead racing out to a 15-point lead toward the end of the first quarter, Malden fought back to cut Thursday’s game to two points with three minutes remaining in regulation. In the end, however, Marblehead’s defense stepped up behind Rylan Golden and Cam Quigley, according to coach Mike Giardi.
Offensively, the tournament-bound Magicians (10-7) were led by Finn Baron (13 points), Sam Thompson (12), and Quigley (11).

Offensive versatility was on display for Tech (13-6) in its city matchup against KIPP Academy. Engelyz Bingham led the way with 16 points, five rebounds, and four steals, followed by Allison Morales (14 points, 6 steals, 2 rebounds, 2 assists), Jaylianniez Beauchamp (6 points, 5 steals), Skylah Sanchez (4 points, 3 rebounds), and Niya Bingham (3 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals).
“Great all-around team win,” said Tech coach Kaitlyn Wechsler.
Swampscott 46
Revere 39
Host Swampscott found a balanced attack against Revere. Freshman Anna Kanders led all scorers with 12 points, while Sam Ward and Olivia Quagrello had 10 points apiece.
“I was proud of the grit we played with today,” said Swampscott coach Katelyn Leonard. “Revere was a physically tough team, but we didn’t back down.”

Trailing by as many as 17 points in the third quarter, Peabody cut the deficit to five points, but couldn’t take home a victory. The Tanners were led by Sophia Coburn (14 points, 15 rebounds) and Ally Bettencourt (12 points, 7 rebounds).
