To the editor:
As I looked out my window, I saw several Saugus town vehicles clearing the snow from a section of Winter Street. When the beds and buckets were filled, these vehicles went down the roadway to Stocker Playground. When they came back, those beds and buckets were empty.
Now, I always thought that treated snow had to be disposed of at “Snow Farms” in order to protect the environment.
Ah, but wait, I forgot this was Stocker Playground! Evidently environmental laws do not apply there!
Supposedly the feasibility of a dog park is being proposed. Supposedly, this is not a “done deal” and honest opposition is being considered. Supposedly, all the legal and moral aspects of this are being evaluated openly and fairly.
Then why are dogs already using this park as the personal bathroom with no penalty for owners who don’t clean up after their pets? Why is it allowable to dump treated snow in a children’s playground?
I do not expect answers to my questions. I do not expect the Stocker Land Trust to be honored. However, I do wonder that an area with a river, wetlands, and wildlife (all elements we are told must be preserved and protected) appears to be exempt from any protection whatever.
