SAUGUS — Patricia “Pat” Volta died at age 81 on Monday, Feb 17. Volta was a member of Saugus-Everett Elk’s Lodge #642 for 28 years and was a trailblazer.
Volta was the first woman to ever serve as secretary of the Saugus Lodge #1200, the first statewide woman officer of the Massachusetts Elks Association, and the first, and currently only, woman named State Elk of the Year.
Elk of the Year is an award that has a great amount of meaning, according to the organization. It is a way a Lodge can recognize a Member who is always willing to help and one you can rely upon to get things done.
According to her obituary, she was also named Female Veteran Volunteer for her donations of lap robes to veterans and nursing home residents.
Mark W. Cronin, secretary of Massachusetts Elks Association, put out a statement saying, “It is with deep regret that I inform you of the passing of Patricia “Pat” A. Volta, wife of Past State President, Past Grand Esteemed Lecturing Knight & Lodge Activities/State Association Committeeman Edward P. Volta.”
Instead of flowers, Pat’s family asks that anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory may do so to Mass. Elks Scholarship Fund, Inc. via the provided link https://www.maelks.org/scholarships/ or a charity of your choice.
