The Saugus and Swampscott girls basketball teams took care of business Tuesday night – one in upset fashion; one on home court.
No. 40 Auburn was no match for No. 25 Saugus in Division 3 action. The host Sachems (14-7) took a 33-9 lead into halftime en route to a 59-25 win. Peyton DiBiasio scored 18 first-half points and it was all uphill from there in front of a strong home crowd.
Next up for Saugus – which allowed just four fourth-quarter points Tuesday – is a road game against No. 8 East Bridgewater (16-4) Thursday at 6 p.m.
Also in Division 3, you could say No. 34 Swampscott (13-8) put on a defensive clinic against No. 31 Southeastern (Easton). The Big Blue allowed just one point in the first quarter and two points in the third. From there, they rode their momentum to a 43-33 upset win.
Swampscott was led by Anna Kanders (24 points, 4 rebounds) in her first postseason game, Olivia Quagrello (9 points, 5 assists), and Cecilia Tripp (7 rebounds). Coach Katelyn Leonard’s Big Blue visit powerhouse No. 2 Foxborough (19-1) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
