HUDSON — The Lynn Classical and Hudson girls basketball teams were separated by 17 spots in the Division 3 state tournament, but that didn’t matter Wednesday.
Instead, after 52 miles on the road, the No. 41 Lady Rams charged through the No. 24 Hawks and returned home with a 44-36 upset win.
Classical trailed by eight points (25-17) at halftime before exploding in the second half, outscoring Hudson, 27-11, inside of its own gymnasium.
“I told the kids: If we made a few shots, this is a closer game,” said Classical Coach Tom Sawyer.
Second-chance opportunities were hard to come by for Hudson – Sawyer even highlighted defensive rebounding as a key to victory.
Other keys to victory were Keisha Perez (19 points) and Divine Egbuta (12).
“I’m just really proud of this group and they dug in tonight,” Sawyer said. “It showed what we can do when we play together.”
Next up for the Lady Rams (14-7) is No. 9 Norton (11-9). The road matchup is set for 6 p.m. Friday.
“The message will be like it was tonight: We’ve got nothing to lose and let’s just go out there and play,” Sawyer said.
