SWAMPSCOTT — Residents traveling down Monument Avenue may have spotted signs of construction taking place around Town Hall, namely a gigantic crane looming over the area.
According to the Director of the Department of Public Works (D.P.W.) and Interim Town Administrator Gino Cresta, the work is for roofing repairs to the building.
“Preliminary work is being conducted today in anticipation of a future replacement of the flat roof on the Town Hall building,” Cresta said.
Workers on site were seen wearing protective gear and standard safety equipment, which Cresta said was normal for the project. He noted there were no signs of any hazardous outbreak or risk of contamination for the workers, and that work on the project was going as expected.
The town is collaborating with SenCam Incorporated, an environmental contractor, for work on the project. Cresta said he expects the project will take no longer than a day to reach completion.
The building in which Town Hall is located was originally built by architect James Templeton Kelly in 1889. The building has housed town offices since 1944, according to the town’s website.
