Lynn and Saugus Fire Departments battle blaze on Magnar Road

LYNN — The Lynn Fire Department rushed to the scene after a two-alarm fire broke out on 25 Magnar Road on Friday afternoon.

The fire started in one of the apartments on the fifth floor of the five-story apartment complex. A total of eight ladder trucks were quick to appear on the scene.

Property Manager for the apartment complex, Susan Vacchio spoke on the incident. “I’m just happy that everyone got out safely, and for the Fire Department responding so quickly,” Vacchio said.

“We were called here on an automatic alarm, and while we were in route a call was made that necessitated us getting three engines and a ladder truck,” Lynn Fire Department Chief Dan Sullivan said. “We ultimately went to a second alarm, which brings in another three engines and an additional ladder truck.”

Sullivan noted that the Saugus Fire Department was also there on the scene to assist Lynn in battling the blaze.

“The main body of fire was in the fifth floor apartment,” Sullivan said. “We have opened up the apartments adjacent to it to make sure any fire that got in the attic was contained to the initial area.”

He added that it appeared the main body of fire had been knocked down. “There’s at least four units displaced on the top floor, and probably an equal number, maybe more, on the lower levels, because of the water damage.”

Sullivan thanked the building maintenance crew and the Vacchio for their work on escorting the residents to safety at the nearby recreation center.

“As far as I know, we haven’t had any firefighter injuries, and I don’t believe we’ve had any civilian injuries as well,” Sullivan said. He added that, at this time, it was too early to determine how the fire started.
