Nahant students make waves at Tides Restaurant

March 3, 2025 by Zach Laird

NAHANT — Johnson Elementary School will eagerly rally the community together at the Tides Restaurant on Thursday to support the students.

Hosted by the Nahant Education Foundation (NEF) and in collaboration with the Tides, the event will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at 2 Wilson Road. Both residents and family of Johnson students are encouraged to come together for a dinner, connect with their community, and play raffles to win prizes while supporting the NEF.

Johnson Elementary Principal Kevin Andrews commented on how the NEF is critical to the Johnson students’ education experience. “The NEF funds a lot of critical programs throughout the school for our students,” Andrews said. “It’s really important that our students are offered a lot of opportunities that help enrich their education.”

Andrews cited some of the programs that have been most impactful on the students, such as the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and the Marine Science program. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the NEF for the different STEM programs the Johnson School offers.

He added that the NEF also has another future development in the works. According to Andrews, the NEF is currently trying to raise funding for an Earth Day project where kids will get to design and fly their own custom kites in May.

“We’re very excited to see everyone come down and support the cause,” Andrews said. He added that he hopes the event will be a rare chance for people to see how their financial support impacts the betterment of the Johnson students’ education.

The NEF is an independent, non-profit organization that raises funds from private sources in support of the pursuit of excellence at the Johnson Elementary School, according to its mission statement online.
