NAHANT — The Fire Department gathered outside the firehouse on Friday afternoon to recognize Gennaro Angiulo’s contributions to the department over the years.

Among the attendees were also Town Administrator Tony Barletta, Selectman Rob Tibbo, U.S. Rep Sean Reid, Amari Gaston of State Sen. Brendan Crighton’s office, and Police Chief Timothy Furlong

Fire Chief Austin Antrim was the first to speak. “We really wanted to recognize Gennaro for all he’s done for the department,” Antrim said. “He’s really gone out of his way every year to support the department.”

Antrim said Angiulo’s consistent contributions helped out in a variety of different ways. “Whether it’s towing our apparatus or picking up our vehicles and taking all the fluid out of them so we could roll them over and practice stabilization techniques.”

“Every single year, he donates vehicles to us, and in return, he never asks for anything, never charges us anything,” Antrim said.

According to Antrim, about five years ago the department’s boat broke down — so Angiulo donated his personal boat to help the department. “We’ve gone through the records, and that boat has pulled at least 20 people out of the water out of danger,” Antrim said. “We really wanted to recognize him for all he’s done, we’re so appreciative.”

“We don’t do or donate anything because we’re looking for something in return,” Angiulo said. “We do what we do for public safety, because we know it helps you guys.”

Angiulo continued, “Sometimes, we realize there isn’t stuff in the budget, and sometimes the town doesn’t have the money for certain things.”

Tibbo also expressed his perspective on Angiulo’s contributions. “You’ve always been a good neighbor to Nahant,” he said.
