PEABODY — A fire broke out on Corwin Street at 2:15 p.m., and a W C Girrisi & Sons employee got a second degree burn on one of his hands attempting to put it out before first responders arrived.

Peabody Fire Deputy Richard Nelson said the call came in as a structure fire at the old junkyard. Three pumps and a ladder responded.

“On arrival, we had smoke and fire come from the structure, and three cars were on fire,” Nelson said. We had an issue with water supply because it was such a long lay away from the hydrant, but once we got water on it, fairly quickly we extinguished the three cars and the structure.”

This story is ongoing and will be updated as more information becomes available.
