LYNN— A Lynn man was ordered held without bail after a police raid at his home uncovered multiple firearms, including untraceable ‘ghost guns,’ along with ammunition and drugs, according to court records.
The Lynn Police Department’s Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), executed a search warrant on March 13 at a Curwin Circle residence as part of an ongoing investigation.
During the raid, officers recovered a short-barrel AR-15-style rifle, a .40-caliber handgun, multiple high-capacity magazines, a firearm suppressor, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, and various gunsmithing tools and firearm parts. Investigators also seized Suboxone strips, a drug used to treat opioid addiction.
Roshaun Bennefield, 39, of Lynn, was arrested and arraigned in Lynn District Court on March 14th on 14 charges, including seven counts of possessing untraceable firearms, possession of a firearm without an FID card, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, unlawful possession of ammunition, possession of a silencer, and possession of a firearm while committing a felony.
Bennefield was ordered held without bail after prosecutors filed a motion under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 276, Section 58A, which allows suspects deemed dangerous to be detained pretrial.
According to police reports, officers found unfinished firearm parts, assembly tools, and gun kits lacking serial numbers, making them untraceable. ATF agents assisted in examining the weapons and confirmed that Bennefield possessed the tools necessary to assemble fully functioning firearms. Authorities did not disclose what initially led them to Bennefield’s residence, but investigators found a large safe containing multiple rounds of ammunition and firearm accessories. Documents also show that Bennefield did not possess a valid Massachusetts License to Carry a Firearm.
Bennefield remains in custody and is scheduled for his next court appearance on March 20. The ATF and Lynn Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and could lead to further charges.
