NAHANT — The Nahant Village Church is partnering with Mission for Hope to collect clothing and supplies for those in need.

According to the church, the two entities are busily gathering sleeping bags, blankets, shoes, clothes and other supplies for people in need. Community members are encouraged to drop off donations at 27 Cliff Street between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon from Monday to Friday.

The church will be accepting donations from residents until April 1.

“I appreciate my partnership with the Village Church in Nahant,” Mission for Hope founder Leighton O’Connor said. “It takes a village to make things like this happen.”

O’Connor said the organization’s latest outing brought them to Lynn, where the group’s newly outfitted trailer was used to serve food to people. “We plan on using that trailer again in two weeks to bring hot meals to homeless people in the Lynn area.”

“We’ve already collected a good number of items for people,” Christie Stevens, office manager at the church, said. “Marrit Hastings connected with Leighton O’Connor and thought it would be a really good mission for the church.”

Stevens continued, “I just think it’s a really great way to help people and for residents to get involved if they know where to go.”

Mission for Hope was founded in 2018. The organization is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, providing care and raising awareness about the severe homeless crisis throughout the United States, according to the mission statement on the organization’s website.
