From friendship to fashion: The birth of Sinkid — The journey begins with four best friends who had turned their shared passion for fashion into a joint project, which ultimately became Sinkid in 2021.
The group, composed of four members who have known each other for most of their lives, includes Big Body (William), Sinkid IB, Dee Dame, and Asian Goblin. All four members graduated from Lynn Classical High School. Sinkid was born out of the members’ shared passion for styling and assembling outfits and their unbridled creativity.
They aspire to embody the community and make a statement with high-end fashion. Sinkid merges the appeal of high-end fashion with the laid-back, contemporary vibe of streetwear. Their designs feature premium materials, meticulous craftsmanship, and attention to detail, all while incorporating elements commonly found in streetwear.
Not only have they made a name for themselves in the city, but they’ve expanded beyond with names such as Duke Dennis, Shordie Shordie, and Loe Shimmy rocking their pieces.
“Growing up we always wanted to create a community where people could feel safe and express themselves with how they feel. And that’s sort of where the name Sinkid came from,” Big Body said. “Not only are we kids and products of this city called ‘Sin City,’ but it’s also to express the inner kid in you and to always utilize that creative part of you.”
“What makes a Sinkid is somebody who just goes out and lives their life without judgment, expresses themselves through their pieces, their clothes, and conquers their past. We all make mistakes, but you can’t let them make you.” (Big Body)
Drops and the ‘Ominous Collection’: Sinkid’s upcoming plans — The brand’s drops have included a variety of clothing items, such as shorts, sweats, hoodies, long sleeves, and tote bags. Their newest collection, the “Ominous Collection,” features a distressed, purple and black hoodie with a sun-faded look, DTG print, and rivets. The hoodies are described as triple-layered.
With summer just around the corner, Sinkid is gearing up for a new drop that they are working on every day, and are excited to provide little flash drops coming up as well. Group member Dee Dame is also the owner of Scopo, a branch of Sinkid. There, you can shop the Scopo Eye Chain and Scopo Staple Belt.
“I think that none of us are normal; we’re all unique in our own way,” Big Body said. “I think that’s how our creativeness influences our fashion and our products.”
Turning passion into business: Overcoming challenges and a new milestone — As far as any challenges when it comes to being a fashion group, Big Body states that when you do something with love and passion, it’s not necessarily a challenge. The only challenges that arise are not related to the fashion aspect but instead to funding, marketing, and the process of becoming a business.
In fact, The group’s most memorable achievement so far is officially becoming a business and gaining their LLC status on Valentine’s Day last year.
“I think the biggest challenge is arguing with these three sometimes, but I love them, so I can’t complain,” Big Body said.
Blending innovation and inspiration: A unique approach to fashion and design — Sinkid stays current with the latest fashion trends, drawing inspiration from others while ensuring their pieces remain original and unique. They emphasize that each team member brings their own creative vision, helping the brand carve out its own distinctive niche, which allows them to blend their individual personalities into their collaborative designs.
High-end brands like Yeezy and Balenciaga are also noted by Sinkid, which aims to differentiate itself from these brands. Sinkid also gave a shout-out to local designers who continue to influence and inspire the brand.
“Shout out to the hard workers like Mvhco, Sh0ck, Mud Baby, and DeAndre from Vlush,” Big Body said. “These are people that we’ve met along the way that have become so close network-wise. I’d also give a big shout-out to whatever streetwear brands came out of Lynn before us… big shout-out to them.”
Authenticity in design: Following your calling and creating your own path — When it comes to advice for aspiring designers, it all boils down to having a true calling. If you know you’re good at something, just do it. This applies to fashion and beyond.
If that means washing cars or painting wall murals, you can admire others who do it, but you might have a different take on it and do it with your own approach. Their advice: never try to blend in.
“I just say stick to your gut, be unique, and the rest will follow,” Big Body said.
“Simply just do it,” Sinkid IB said. “I don’t think there’s any other advice. For anyone that wants to do something, just do it, see what happens.”
Where to shop Sinkid: Online, in-person, and an upcoming expansion — If you want to shop Sinkid’s pieces, the best spot is to shop on their official website, which will ship anywhere you need. There, you can shop their latest collections and some past drops, see current sales, and contact them.
You can also stay up to date with the brand on their Instagram and TikTok accounts. Another way to shop the brand is in person at Mvcho’s Room on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the second floor, which is located at 545 Washington St. in Lynn. They also aim to be part of Select, which is a vintage clothing pop-up event located in Boston but will confirm this on their Instagram.
While specific details are still being revealed, one thing is certain: the brand is gearing up for a major expansion. This will include the opening of its very own store in Salem, tentatively scheduled for sometime in April. This move signifies a significant step for the brand, allowing it to connect directly with customers and provide a tangible experience of its products and ethos.
“What makes a Sinkid is somebody who just goes out and lives their life without judgment, expresses themselves through their pieces, their clothes, and conquers their past. We all make mistakes, but you can’t let them make you.” Big Body said.
