Another Saugus craft store bites the dust

SAUGUS — Artist & Craftsman Supply North Shore, located at 751 Broadway, has officially announced it will be closing, writing on Facebook, “Yes, our time in Saugus is coming to an end.”

The store opened in August of 2010, nearly hitting its 15-year anniversary in Saugus. This was the company’s only Massachusetts location after the closing of its Cambridge store in 2022.

The Cambridge store manager said in 2022 that the location closed primarily due to high rent. This news shocked and saddened residents of Cambridge and Somerville at the time.

The closing of the Saugus location has sparked a similar response, with many customers reminiscing about how much they loved the store and how helpful the employees had been over the years. Some customers mentioned driving from New Hampshire, as the store was the only place offering certain art supplied in the region.

This closure announcement follows the recent bankruptcy filing of the fabric and craft store Joann. Saugus also lost Michaels in 2024 due to a landlord dispute.

“A huge thank you to our loyal customers who have supported us in Saugus for nearly 15 years. We hope to see you at one of our other locations nationwide, including Portland, Maine, and New York, or shop with us online,” the store wrote.
