Helping seniors get small in Saugus

Elizabeth Della Piana

March 23, 2025 by Elizabeth Della Piana

SAUGUS — The senior center, located at 466 Central St., will be hosting an event on downsizing on April 7 from 10 to 11:20 a.m., sponsored by Mango Realty and Reading Cooperative Bank.

The presenters consist of “experts who have worked with seniors who have downsized and simplified their life,” according to the flyer.

Presenters will include Sue Palomba and Peter Manoogian of Mango Realty, Vice President, Mortgage Loan Officer Maureen Bernard of Reading Cooperative Bank’s Lynn office, Attorney Donna DiGiovanni, home investor Jason Scaduto, clean out/junk remover Bob Penta of Services Unlimited, professional organizer Corrin Bomberger, and King Movers & Storage.

Bernard explained that Reading Cooperative Bank is a full-service bank and is looking to help the community in any way they can through this event.

“We’re there to educate and let people know that there are options,” Bernard said. “My passion is to help people.”

During the event, Mango Realty will share the story of Bob Falta, a former Saugus resident who Mango Realty helped downsize. “We loved our (Saugus) house, and the thought of going through the whole moving process was frightening,” Falta said. “We lived in that house for 35 years. A large house is great; you have room for all of your stuff and space to do whatever you like.”

He continued that the space also causes you to collect things that you don’t really use or need.

“We kept going back and forth, should we move or not? Finally we decided, yes we’re going to move. One big problem we quickly discovered was that we did not plan ahead,” Falta said.

Refreshments will be provided by Reading Cooperative Bank. Those who wish to attend can RSVP to Sue Palomba at 617-877-4553 by April 3.
