SAUGUS — In its 22nd year of Zip Trips, Boston 25 News announced it will finally add Saugus to its summer series after its last trip there in 2011.
The series has become a great way for the station to connect with locals and features interviews with residents, businesses, and organizations, with a special highlight of local gems.
This year, Zip Trips are getting the earliest start they’ve ever had with a trip to Lexington for Patriot’s Day. However, the series will return to its normal schedule, with Saugus being the first location on June 27.
For anchor and Saugus local Catherine Parrotta, this trip is special. Parrotta has wanted to do a Zip Trip in her town for quite some time. During the announcement, Meteorologist Shiri Spear said, “Catherine has been desperate to tell someone.”
When asked how she feels about Boston 25 finally heading to her town, Parrotta shared her excitement.
“Each Zip Trip season, I’ve hoped Saugus would be among the communities to make the list. I’m thrilled that it’s become a reality this year,” she said. “While we’re just beginning the planning stages for each of our Zip Trips, I’m looking forward to taking our viewers to some of my favorite spots while showing them what I’ve known to be true my whole life; that Saugus is a great community with a lot to offer, and so many people and places that make it unique!”
Board of Selectmen Chair Debra Panetta was excited to hear that the town would be included in this year’s series.
“I truly hope they take the time to explore some of Saugus’s most cherished spots — our historic Iron Works, the beautiful Town Hall, Breakheart Reservation, the scenic rail trail, Prankers Pond, and the Boardman House,” she said.
She continued, “When visitors come to Saugus, I hope they feel the warmth of our community, recognize the rich history that surrounds us, and witness the pride we have in our town. I also want to highlight just how vital community involvement and volunteerism are to the spirit of Saugus.”
Though the episode will take place in June, Panetta commented that the heart and soul of Saugus truly come alive on Founder’s Day, which is in September.
The rest of the series includes Quincy on July 11, Mashpee on July 25, Sturbridge on Aug. 8, and Hanover on Aug. 15.
