Swampscott’s baseball team, once again helmed by Coach Joe Caponigro, kicked off the spring in style, taking down Northeast Metro Tech, 12-7, in Wakefield.

David Palmer of the Big Blue (1-0) picked up a relief win, while Nate Lee had three hits (HR, double, single) and two RBI. Jamison Ford chipped in a home run, two RBI, and a diving catch in right field, as well as recording the last three outs of the game on the mound.

Cooper Correnti, Michael Collins, and Chase Groothuis added two hits apiece, while leadoff hitter Adam Sparacio contributed two RBI.

Swampscott visits Saugus Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Newburyport 7
Marblehead 6

In a tough season-opener to swallow, Marblehead (0-1) fell short in Newburyport as early mistakes were too much to overcome. Cam Quigley and Ethan Harwood led the Magicians – who nearly came back with a three-run seventh inning – with two hits apiece, while Harwood compiled two RBI.

Malden 12
Lynn Tech 3

The visiting Tigers tapped home plate three times, but struggled to contain Malden’s bats. Tech dropped to 1-1 after last week’s season-opening victory against Salem Academy.

Lynn Tech’s Elmer Duran (37 assists, 10 digs, 4 aces) just about did it all as his Tigers (2-0) remained perfect. Also contributing were Didlaire Jacques Jr. (16 kills, 8 digs, 3 blocks), Jayden Tran (12 kills, 6 digs), Jacob DeLeon (7 digs, 4 kills, 4 blocks), Cristhian Penaloza (10 digs), Davi De Oliveira (8 kills), and Bryan Robles (4 blocks).

BOYS TENNIS

It was close, but Lynnfield pulled out Tuesday’s match with Shea McCarthy winning in first singles. Both Pioneers’ doubles teams – Matt Reinold and Raffi Arkun; Brady Trippe and Rowan Bayer – took care of business.

GIRLS TENNIS

The Spartans (0-1) fought to the final point, but fell on enemy courts. Carolina Toranzo picked up a singles win, while the duo of Madi Desilets and Ava Gigliotti took care of doubles business.
