SAUGUS — A woman in her 30s was attacked by her two dogs around 5:55 p.m. Tuesday. It has also been reported that the woman was pregnant and home alone when the incident happened.
The woman called 911 and the Saugus Police Department, Saugus Animal Control Officer as well as EMS responded to her location.
“We got a call from a resident who said she had just broken up a fight between her two dogs. She got bit in the process…She was transported to the hospital with injuries to her hand. The animal control officer was called to the scene and he took the dogs to quarantine for 10 days,” Police Chief Michael Ricciardelli said.
The breed of the dog was not confirmed.
In Massachusetts, a dog or cat that bites/scratches a person must be quarantined for 10 days. This is so the health status of said animal can be observed to ensure it does not have rabies. After 10 days, if the animal shows no sign of being rabid, the incident could not have occurred to due rabies, according to the state’s Protocol for Domestic Animal that Bites / Scratches a Person or another Domestic Animal.
