Mark Aboyoun

April 7, 2025 by Mark Aboyoun

Several high school sporting events were postponed due to weather conditions.

The Lynnfield boys and girls lacrosse team put on a scoring clinic on Monday evening. Each team scored 18 goals en route to victory over Triton.

The boy’s team won 18-6 in their matchup. Lynnfield’s Mike Murphy led the way with seven goals and one assist. Owen Considine (8 assists) and Johnny Powers netted hat tricks in the win. Owen Doherty chipped in with four goals and an assist while Kelan Cardinal set up five goals and Angelo Covino registered an assist.

Ben Pimentel made five saves and Tyler Maddocks recorded seven face-off wins.

On the girl’s side, the Pioneers had a lot to celebrate in their 18-0 win over Triton. Sophomore Hayden Valiton (4 goals, 2 assists) scored her 100th goal in the win.

Taylor Valiton finished with five goals and three assists. Ava Damiani scored a brace and had four assists.

Jordan Calichman, Hannah Ozanian, Maeve Wertz, Maura Flaws, Clara Caulfield, Ereeny Georges, and Rori Caprio all scored one goal while Lily White provided an assist.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 12

Malden Catholic 1

12 goals from 10 different players for the Eagles. Although the Eagles showed they have plenty of weapons on offense, they showed they’re just as strong on the defensive end.

“Defensively Danny Magoon and JP Sullivan helped hold Malden Catholic to 2 shots on goal for the game,” Head Coach John Pynchon said.

Chase Kenyon won 14-of-16 face-offs for St. John’s Prep.

Archbishop Williams 14

St. Mary’s 4

Despite some excellent saves from goalie Ryan Amirault, the Spartans dropped to 1-1 on the season.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Bishop Fenwick 6

Bishop Feehan 4

The Crusaders won a narrow game against Bishop Feehan on Monday evening. Bishop Fenwick got a strong performance from Breanna Genzale who netted four goals. Molly Sullivan (1 goal, 1 assist), Hannah Bettencourt (1 goal, 2 assists), Kiley Bloom (1 assist), and Nieve Bachman (1 assist) all played well in the win.

In addition to the offense playing well, Crusaders head coach Jill Robinson praised her team’s defense.

“Great defense by Meghan Eastman, Olivia Watson, and Cori McMeniman,” Robinson said.

In net, Courtney McKenzie made nine saves to earn the win.

St. Mary’s 9

Archbishop Williams 8

The Spartans continue to roll, picking up their third consecutive win. Ava Nason led the way with five goals including the game-winner with 2:17 left in the game.

Shaye Denning (2 goals), Alyssa Norden (1), and Olivia Penney (1) all got on the scoresheet.

In net, Emma Gustin made eight saves to help St. Mary’s move to 3-2 on the season.

VOLLEYBALL

Lynn Classical 3

Medford 1

The Rams picked up a big Greater Boston League win on the road against Medford. In a tight game between two of the best in the GBL, Classical won the first two sets (25-22, 25-16) before dropping the third set (25-27). Instead of dropping their heads, they rallied back in the fourth set to win the set (25-21) and the match.

Junior libero Long Pham registered 19 digs in the game. His third dig of the game was the 500th of his career.

Viet Tran (19) and Leo Cruz (13) combined for 32 kills. Riches Tep added 10 kills while Kenzel Lantano finished with 36 assists.

“This was a hard-fought GBL win. Medford played hard all night and pushed us in every set. For us, the night belonged to Long who recorded his 500th dig early in the match,” Classical coach Chris LeBlanch said. “Long anchors our defense and allows us to run our offense all night. It’s a tremendous accomplishment for him. Hopefully, we can carry this momentum into Wednesday’s match at Everett.”
