LYNNFIELD —Residents headed to the polls Tuesday to vote in the annual town election. The unofficial results of the School Committee race saw challenger Kim Baker Donahue topping the ticket with 1,049 votes and incumbent Kristen Elworthy being re-elected with 684 votes. Incumbent Jenny Sheehan fell short with 654 votes.
Polls closed at 8 p.m., but results for the tightly contested School Committee election weren’t completely counted until late Tuesday night when they were announced by Town Clerk Amanda Haggstrom at a Select Board meeting.
All other seats, including for the Select Board, the Planning Board, the Town Moderator, the Board of Assessors, the Housing Authority, and two for the Board of Library Trustees, were uncontested.
The uncontested candidates are all incumbents, excluding the two candidates running for seats on the Board of Library Trustees, Karin Round and Stephanie Lynne Slate.
They will be filling in for two members, Faith Honer-Coakley and Richard Mazzola, who have decided not to contend for further incumbency.
Select Board member Dick Dalton, who received 1,090 votes, will be returning for his fourth term after a year of accomplishments like complying with the MBTA Communities Zoning Act and the advancement of the public safety building project expected to open in December.
“I’m looking forward to serving another three-year term. This will be the 10th year that I’ll be kicking off,” Dalton said. “I’ve enjoyed it all along and look forward to the challenges that the town’s going to be facing in these next few years.”
After the election results were announced, Dalton, Elworthy, Baker Donahue, Round, and Lynne Slate were sworn in.
Finally, the Select Board voted Philip Crawford as Chair of the Select Board, Alexis Leahy as Vice Chair, and Dalton as Clerk.
