Make it two games, two wins for the Lynn Classical baseball team, which took down Everett, 1-0, at Fraser Field Tuesday. The Rams defeated Lynnfield in last week’s season-opener.
Captain Christian Figueroa (85 pitches) put on a show against Everett, going the distance and allowing no runs, no walks, and just two hits. He punched out nine batters, to boot. Classical’s Mark Walsh picked up the game’s lone RBI and played strong defense, too, according to Coach Leon Elwell.
“Everett’s much improved from last year,” Elwell said. “Christian Figueroa started again for us – he’s our ace. He threw strikes and dominated tonight.”
Elwell and his Rams return to action Thursday in Medford with first pitch slated for 4:15 p.m.

The Magicians played true to their name and slotted 16 goals in Tuesday’s win against the Panthers. Reece Moore (6 goals, 2 assists), Will Sullivan (4 goals, assist), Colin White (2 goals), Ben Zamansky (2 goals), James Achterhof (goal), and Tyler Forbes (goal) did the offensive damage, while Colin Maniaci made eight saves.
Winthrop 9
Swampscott 5
Swampscott received contributions from Liam Keaney (2 goals), Chase Russo (2 goals), Drew Hause (goal), and Timmy Sheehan (15 saves), but fell to the Vikings.
“Great battle,” said Swampscott Coach Geoff Beckett. “Winthrop was relentless on GBs (ground balls) and their goalie made a ton of saves. We struggled on GBs and clears, which limited our possessions.”
Malden 8
Lynn 7
In a late finish at Manning Field, it took three overtimes to settle things between Lynn and Malden. In the end, despite holding two-goal leads after the second and third quarters, the Jets fell in sudden death.

Despite a 6-3 halftime lead, the Magicians (1-3, 0-1 Northeastern Conference) let things slip in the second half. Taking positives from a negative, Marblehead’s Kathryn Commoss scored four goals to go with an assist, while Maddie Forbes scored and dished out two helpers.
“Strong game today against a talented Beverly team,” said Marblehead Coach Annie Madden. “We are continuing to improve across the field. I’m looking forward to playing Tewksbury tomorrow at home.”
