PEABODY — Fire crews responded to a working fire on the first floor of a house at 108 Lynn St. shortly after 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Peabody Fire Chief Jay Dowling.
The call came in from a neighbor as no one was home at the time. However, two dogs died due to the flames.
Both residential and commercial units are located inside the first and second floors of the building.
“A resident got home right after we arrived, and she’s the one who let us know there were dogs inside. Unfortunately, they passed away,” Dowling said.
Investigators do not have details as of now on what caused the blaze, but the call originally came in as a stovetop fire.
“It looks like the fire got behind the walls. It did not extend to the second floor,” Dowling said. “Our crews did a great job getting in and knocking it down and keeping the fire to the first floor.”
Police continued to close off the street as first responders finished with the scene.
