After a few tough losses, Lynnfield (2-2) returned with vengeance to knock off Hamilton-Wenham at home. Freshman Lilly Gately (7 IP, ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 8 K) strung together her first varsity win.

Marblehead 1
Beverly 0
Talk about a pitchers’ duel, as Beverly’s Lidia Miedema (7 K) and Marblehead’s Tessa Francis (9 K) each allowed two hits. In the end, however, Marblehead escaped in the final inning.
In the seventh, Francis helped her cause by hitting a single to left field before Keliane Salem stole second base. From there, Kate Andriano intentionally walked before Salem and Andriano pulled off a double steal. After a passed ball, Salem “came flying home” to win the game, according to Marblehead Coach Johnny Gold.
Salem 5
Saugus 4
Despite four runs scored, Saugus (2-4) fell just short against the Witches. Leading the Sachems were Lily Ventre (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Alannah Duong (2-for-4, R), and Sofia McCarrier (RBI), who also went the distance in the circle and allowed just two earned runs.
“Close game, but we were on the losing end,” said Saugus Coach Steve Almquist. “But, there were still some positives we’re able to build on.”

VOLLEYBALL
Lynn Classical 3
Lynn English 0
In clean set scores of 25-17, 25-16, and 25-16, Classical (4-2, 2-2 Greater Boston League) topped English behind Long Pham’s 17 digs and 32 service receptions with no errors. Riches Tep added eight kills, four aces, and three digs for the Rams.
“This was a nice bounce-back win for us,” said Classical Coach Chris LeBlanc. “We always know that English is going to play us tough and tonight was no exception. Our boys were exceptionally clean tonight. Coming off Malden, where we made 63 errors, we were really happy that we limited ourselves to 17 errors all night. It’s a quick turnaround. We hit the road tomorrow for a big non-con with Woburn. The competition is a step up and hopefully, our boys respond.”
