April 20, 2025 by Joey Barrett

Swampscott’s baseball team trailed Beverly for a chunk of Saturday’s game at Frank DeFelice Diamond, but that was no problem for the team in blue.

The Big Blue, once again helmed by Coach Joe Caponigro, scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 9-6 taming of the Panthers. Jamison Ford registered the game-winning RBI.

Swampscott’s Will Brogna secured the win after 2 2/3 innings on the bump, while Nick Berube’s single tied the game late.

Next up for Swampscott is Monday’s road game in Stoneham beginning at 1 p.m.

BASEBALL

North Reading 3

North Reading (5-1) was undefeated heading into Saturday morning’s tilt with Lynnfield (4-2), but the Pioneers prevailed and doubled up the Hornets at home. Lynnfield’s Madux Iovinelli (7 IP, 6 H, 4 K) was a man on a mission, pitching a complete game and going 2-for-3 at the plate with a single and double.

Also contributing were Luke DiSilvio (2-run HR), Tyler Adamo (HR), catcher Matt Tracy (2-for-3), and Jimmy Pasquale (2 RBI).

The Pioneers visit Pentucket Tuesday at 10 a.m.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 11
Falmouth (Maine) 6

Two defending state champions. One game.

The Prep (8-0) remained perfect with a five-goal win against host Falmouth after trailing by two goals early. The Eagles tucked six unanswered goals and took a 7-4 halftime lead.

Beckett Lee (3 goals, assist), Luke Kelly (3 goals), and Ryan McCarthy (2 goals) led the offense, while Jack Weissenburger (4 ground balls, 3 caused turnovers) shined defensively.

The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they visit Andover at 6 p.m.
