To the editor:
I am submitting this letter of support for the re-election of MaryEllen Fletcher for another three-year term on the Swampscott Select Board. I am writing as a resident of Swampscott and note that I am also the chair of the Swampscott Affordable Housing Trust. In addition, affordable housing is a large part of my “day job” and I consider myself a housing advocate.
When MaryEllen won the election in 2022, she got right to work on several important issues facing the town. As one of these issues is in fact affordable housing, she reached out to me immediately to form a working relationship. Over these past three years, we have disagreed with how the town should proceed at times with certain projects and what the town should prioritize. But at every turn, she has sought information, asked important questions, and has been respectful of our differing opinions.
The Pine Street supportive affordable housing project for veterans brought a new level of communication and learning, and I truly appreciate the support that MaryEllen has thrown at this project’s success. I specifically want to note and honor the evolution of this support and the personal toll that this support has taken on her. On behalf of the project and housing advocacy, I extend a public thank you.
It is important that our public officials remain open and nimble while being able to govern and protect our public governmental bodies. I believe MaryEllen Fletcher is able to do just that and understand the constituency that she serves. It is more important than ever to protect what we have, and I know MaryEllen understands that too.
Please remember to vote on April 29, and please consider a vote for MaryEllen Fletcher for Swampscott Select Board.
Sincerely,
Kim Martin-Epstein
