NAHANT — The town is currently in search of a college-aged student to fill a necessary gap in the current operations of Town Hall.

Applicants should have a solid understanding of the digital media landscape, with a focus on various social media platforms, as well as a keen grasp of communication skills.

For requirements, the town asks that the candidate possess a high school degree or its equivalent.

The town also asks that the candidate be proficient in various computer skills, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel), as well as have experience with both posting on social media and handling email correspondence.

The applicant must be 18 years of age to apply for this position, and have “excellent written and verbal communication skills, be self-directed and able to work without supervision,” the town statement said.

The intern will be responsible for updating and posting supervised social media and town website content. They will be responding to online correspondence, as well as social media posts and email inquiries.

Other duties and responsibilities include assisting in preparing information such as PowerPoints and various presentations. The intern will also perform basic clerical duties, like distributing and sorting mail, answering phones and directing calls.

The schedule includes 20+ hours per week, with a salary/rate at $15.00-$17.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Town Administrator Tony Barletta commented on the role the intern will play in Town Hall’s operations.

“The Town Hall internship opportunity has proven to be valuable to the intern and the Town. Interns get experience in many different local government functions, from helping in the Town Clerk’s Office, to helping the Assessors Office, helping improve community engagement, and even organizing the community’s Market by the Sea,” Barletta said.  “All of our interns become core members of our team, and they often feel better prepared for future professional opportunities after their time in Nahant.”
