Liam Keaney of Swampscott’s boys lacrosse team ripped five goals, but the Big Blue met their match against Burlington, 11-10, on enemy turf Tuesday.
Offensive contributors were Chase Russo (2 goals, 3 assists), Emerson Joy (goal), Thomas Mello (goal), and Ollie Braham (goal). Luke Michigan won 16 of 24 face-offs, Timmy Sheehan saved 15 shots, and Jay Domelowicz scooped up seven ground balls.
“We had a tough first quarter – one of the worst of the season – but the boys grinded and had a huge third quarter,” said Coach Geoff Beckett. “We had the lead with 2:25 left and just couldn’t maintain possession. Burlington was very fast in transition and capitalized on our mistakes. I’m proud of the grit these boys showed in playing a very tough Burlington team to one goal.”

Lynnfield 5
Although Lynnfield’s Luke DiSilvio threw a no-hitter through four innings and allowed no walks Tuesday, his visiting Pioneers (4-3) fell in the seventh and final inning.
“The pitching was good – let’s just say we gave up six unearned runs,” said Lynnfield Coach John O’Brien. “You’ve got to be able to make plays when the game is on the line, and we didn’t do that today.”
Leading the offense were Nick Groussis (3 H), Walter Radulski (2), and Jimmy Pasquale, who connected on a “terrific RBI-single to take the lead,” according to O’Brien.
“The kids are working hard. It’s just when big moments come, you’ve got to be able to make the plays mentally and physically,” O’Brien said. “It’s not for a lack of effort – these kids work hard and the captains make up a good group.”
Saugus 6
Bishop Fenwick 4
Call it a big win beneath the bright lights. Saugus took down Bishop Fenwick by a pair of runs at World Series Park behind Cam Soroko’s seven strikeouts and three earned runs through 5 1/3 innings pitched. Nate Soroko registered two hits, while Brayden Crawford compiled two RBI.
SOFTBALL
Foxborough 4
St. Mary’s 1
Despite 10 hits from St. Mary’s, the Spartans (3-3) met their match against Foxborough in the Medway April Vacation Softball Tournament. Chloe Mahoney (3-for-3, RBI), who singled down the left-field line for an RBI, led St. Mary’s offense alongside Jayla Walsh and Roma Braid, who each compiled multiple hits. Aliza Crean-Oviedo (2 ER, 7 H, 4 K, 0 BB) took the loss in a complete-game showing.
Notre Dame Cristo Rey 14
Lynn Tech 13
The Tigers (1-7) hit the road and returned home empty-handed despite a strong performance from pitcher Genevieve McCafferty (9 K). Tech scored nine runs across the final two innings, but the effort fell just short of equalizing.
“We scored a couple of runs in the first inning, then they came up with five in the bottom of the first,” said Tech Coach Beth Mercaldi. “Our offense was lacking for the next four innings.”
TRACK AND FIELD
In Tuesday’s non-scoring Catholic Central League jamboree at Manning Field, St. Mary’s Brandon Cruz broke the school record in shot put with a hurl of 43 feet, while Devon Duval qualified for the state meet with a long jump of 21 feet in just his second time competing in the event. Cooper Snow finished second in the 2-mile. On the girls’ side, Kelsey Kwiatek ran the 800m in a personal-best time of 2:29, while Jenelly Paniagua ran a personal-best time of 19.7 in the 100m hurdles.
