To the editor:
Swampscott faces significant challenges: reduced revenues, rising costs, underutilized town properties like Hawthorne By The Sea and Archer Street, and environmental concerns such as beach pollution. In these times, we need a leader with experience, thoughtful thinking, and a collaborative spirit to move us forward; a leader like Katie Phelan.
Katie brings a wealth of experience as a corporate attorney and business professional. Her three years on the Select Board have been marked by thoughtful decision-making and a strong commitment to Swampscott’s long-term health.
She has played a pivotal role in addressing infrastructure issues, notably reallocating funds to improve sewer systems and restore the health of Fisherman’s and King’s Beaches. She also helped broker a compromise on the Pine Street veterans’ affordable housing project, balancing the needs of veterans with concerns from the surrounding neighborhood.
Katie’s leadership style, which is defined by grace, humility, and a genuine willingness to listen, fosters collaboration and respect at a time when divisiveness threatens progress.
Swampscott stands at a crossroads. We have real opportunities to revitalize unused town properties and build a stronger community. Katie Phelan has the vision, experience, and temperament to lead that effort. I urge my fellow residents to vote on Tuesday, April 29 for Katie Phelan for the Swampscott Select Board.
Thank you,
Laurie Strazzullo
