Achieving success brick by brick in Swampscott

April 25, 2025 by Zach Laird

SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott War Memorial Scholarship Fund Committee is setting out to help students lay down the foundations of their future success, one brick at a time.

The committee has announced its “Buy a Brick” campaign, with the goal of helping raise funds for college-bound high school seniors.

For more than 75 years, the committee has continually donated scholarships to Swampscott students needing financial assistance.

“We give two scholarships a year, and we’re looking to expand that if we can or increase that scholarship amount by doing this fundraiser,” Committee Vice Chair Jodi Watts said. “People can memorialize their loved ones or friends by donating, and they’ll have their customized brick laid out in the library and Town Hall area.”

To see the project through, the committee has partnered with Brick Markers USA, an engraving company based in Florida, to help community members leave a lasting reminder of loved ones or friends.

The process of buying an engraved brick is simple — any resident interested in contributing to the committee’s mission can find bricks at donate.brickmarkers.com/swamp/, with options to choose what suits their desires best. People can purchase a 4” by 8” brick with up to three lines of text for $100.

They can also select a larger option in case they’d like a more sizable inscription, with an 8” by 8” brick that costs $225 and can fit up to six lines of text, for any reminder or message the buyer may want memorialized.

Any community member who cannot purchase a brick online is welcome to complete an order form at Town Hall, where they can pay for the brick of their choice with a personal check. Donations toward the fundraiser will be tax-deductible, according to the committee’s flyer for the campaign.
