You know what I’ve been thinking? He starts games off, puts them away, and does anything else his coaching staff needs.
Lynn Classical baseball star Christian Figueroa, a captain of the Rams, was on a mission this past week. Classical took down Chelsea (20-2), Somerville (3-0), and Danvers (8-6).
Better yet, Figueroa’s Rams are 7-1 this spring.
“We have a good, young team and we’ve been working really hard this year,” said Jason Rogato, a former assistant who was elevated to head coach last week. “We have great leadership from Christian Figueroa, Rolky Brea, Mark Walsh, and Boo DiSaia.”
Figueroa was wheeling-and-dealing against Somerville en route to a no-hitter. The senior ace finished with 14 strikeouts and allowed just a pair of walks across seven innings.
Fast forward to Sunday. Classical faced a five-run deficit against Danvers, but rallied back behind Figueroa’s two hits at the plate.
He also put the Falcons to bed.
“Our captain, Figueroa, came in to close out the game,” Rogato said. “I’m proud of how they never gave up.”
Figueroa looks for more Monday when the Rams host Revere at 7 p.m.
