CHELSEA — Carlos Utrera, 27, of Lynn, was arrested Saturday for the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man that morning on 40 Watts St. Utrera appeared in Chelsea District Court Monday for his arraignment.
Utrera was arrested and placed in custody without incident, according to a release from the Chelsea Police Department. The investigation is in collaboration with Chelsea Police and the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit and is still active.
“We are committed to ensuring that those responsible for violent acts in our community are held accountable,” said Chelsea Police Chief Keith Houghton. “I want to thank our detectives and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office for their immediate and tireless work on this case.”
Utrera was held without bail, and the probable cause hearing is scheduled for June 12.
The name of the victim has not been publicly identified.
All suspects and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
