LYNN — St. Mary’s High School has named Josh Keilty varsity boys basketball coach, according to Athletic Director Jeff Newhall.
Keilty led Georgetown High School to the MIAA Division 4 state championship last winter. In eight years at Georgetown, he compiled a record of 100-61 (.621), recording his 100th career win in the state final.
“We are very pleased to have Josh lead our boys basketball program and join the St. Mary’s family,” Newhall said. “He is a proven commodity who has established himself as one of the top coaches in the state. We are confident that success will continue at St. Mary’s.”
Keilty replaces David Brown, who resigned April 18 after coaching the Spartans for 13 seasons. Keilty served four seasons in two stints as an assistant coach at St. John’s Prep from 2011-17 and worked as the boys athletic director at the Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence from 2013-17.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” said Keilty, who teaches at Lynn Classical. “I’m honored and humbled. I wasn’t looking for jobs, but this opportunity at St Mary’s was too good to pass up. I have so much respect for the program and the school.”
Keilty’s Georgetown teams qualified for the MIAA tournament six straight years (there was no tournament in 2021 due to the pandemic) and averaged more than 16 wins the last four seasons, culminating in the state championship run this year.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity Georgetown gave me and I will always treasure the experience I had there,” Keilty said. “There were a lot of people who helped make that work. For me, the best part about coaching is the relationships you build. I feel fortunate to have coached so many highly motivated players who helped us achieve the success we had.”
St. Mary’s Head of School Dr. John F. Dolan said St. Mary’s is getting a winner on and off the court.
“Josh has an impressive coaching resume, but he brings much more than that to the position,” Dolan said. “He is passionate about developing young people and understands the importance of relationships, trust and accountability. We are excited to welcome a state-championship-level coach who is driven by his faith.”
Keilty was a three-sport athlete at Georgetown before going to Salem State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Movement Science. He lives in Lynnfield with his wife Adriana and their three children, Rocco (3), Dante (2) and Carmela (9 months).
“I think my skill set and core beliefs fit perfectly with St. Mary’s mission,” Keilty said. “I will try to build a program that focuses on character development and championship culture.”
