SWAMPSCOTT — Katie Phelan and MaryEllen Fletcher were re-elected to their seats for the Select Board during the town’s election on Tuesday evening.

Phelan received 1,324, and Fletcher received 1,209, while Smith received 847 total votes from the six town precincts.

Phelan spoke of her victory and how moved she was by the support she’s seen.

“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to be re-elected to serve Swampscott. Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign — whether by knocking on doors, spreading the word, or simply sharing your hopes for our town,” Phelan said. “To my amazing campaign team, my husband John and kids Jack and Stella, family, and every person who believed in the work we’ve done and the work ahead — thank you. This win belongs to all of us.

“This campaign was run by an incredible, all-mom team — women who not only work full-time jobs but also carved out countless late nights, early mornings, and weekends to help a fellow mom pursue a vision for our beautiful seaside town,” Phelan said.

Phelan continued, “Their belief in me — and in what we can accomplish together — kept this campaign strong, focused, and full of heart. I’m excited to continue listening, learning, and working hard for this community we all love. Let’s keep moving Swampscott forward — together.”

“This was a challenging campaign, with all the negativity, but negativity can bring a lot of positivity, so I think I was overwhelmed with the amount of people that reached out and were so positive,” Fletcher said. “I appreciate the people coming out to vote, and I think we need to be focused on doing good work for Swampscott.”

“The people have spoken through their votes, and people seem to be happy with the status-quo,” Smith said. “I accept that, and I’ll figure out what endeavor to put my energies to next… I appreciate all the help that people have given me, and the support that I did receive.”

The election results will remain unofficial until the week of May 12, per Massachusetts General Law Chapter 54 Section 135, according to the town’s website.
