It’s no secret that sports fans have opinions. And, more often than not, you’ve got to learn how to defend them. Let’s take a look at some hot sports topics at the moment:
Answers: Dick Newton (Athletic Director at Lynn English)
Can LeBron James do anything to surpass Michael Jordan?
“No. Jordan played in a tougher era with a different kind of game – he was the first of his kind. Jordan competed against the likes of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. He also had to wait his turn to be as great as he is, because those guys were the beginning of turning the NBA around.”
What did you think of the Patriots’ draft?
“Drake Maye is a pretty good quarterback. The guy they took, Will Campbell, was a fine pick. The guy they drafted from Ohio State, TreVeyon Henderson, looks pretty good, too. They’ll be better, but it’s going to take a few years (to get back to the playoffs).”
Why do you think Shedeur Sanders fell in the NFL Draft?
“I think when you’re claiming to be legendary before you play one NFL game and you’re 13-12 in college, you have a lot of proving to do. Maybe he just wasn’t the No. 1 draft pick. He got his name put on the stadium of the University of Colorado at 13-12 and fifth in career passing. Kordell Stewart was probably a better quarterback. I don’t know if he’s as good as what his father (Colorado Coach Deion Sanders) thinks he is.”
Can the Celtics repeat as NBA champions?
“They have a really good chance – they’ve got a good team. They have a good coach and brought everybody back. Nothing changed too much, and I think their chances are pretty good to repeat. It’s hard to repeat, but they’re as good as any other team that can repeat.”
Are the Red Sox a playoff team?
“You won’t know until August, when the dust clears. All of this is just the beginning and there’s a long way to go.”
