LYNN — With graduation right around the corner, Lynn Public Schools is celebrating the success of students from all across the city.
In response to the overwhelming academic success being seen in the city, Superintendent Dr. Evonne S. Alvarez spoke on how proud she was of the students.
“As superintendent, there is no greater pride than celebrating our students’ college acceptances on May 1,” Alvarez said. “Each acceptance represents their hard work, the belief of our educators, and the commitment of families to a culture of aspiration and opportunity. This is the promise of public education fulfilled.”
In honor of their hard work, Lynn schools highlighted some of the many students who received their acceptance letters.
One of those students is Catherine Aguirre Gonzalez of Lynn Tech who is passionate about animals and will attend the University of Massachusetts Lowell to study Biological Sciences. Catherine plans to become a veterinarian and is looking forward to using the skills she gained through the Thrive Scholars program.
Lynn English is sending multiple first-generation students to Messina College this year, including Jazmin Ampudia Robles, an ROTC officer, member of the drill team and a La Vida member. Matthew Castellanos is another student bound for Messina. Next is Crisbelle Duarte, a Peer Tutor, La Vida member and guidance aide with a 4.0 GPA. Geysel Regalado Aplicano has a 3.6 GPA and works at Burger King while balancing academics. She is also a Peer Tutor, a Living in Two Worlds member and a guidance aide. Lastly, Roger Tavares Urena is a member of the ROTC and Drill program and a guidance aide with a 4.1 GPA.
The Messina College program, which focuses on first-generation students, includes two years at Messina, where, if the student upholds a 3.5 GPA, they will then be accepted into Boston College at the cost of community college.
Attending Regis College in the fall, Lynn Tech’s Engelyz Bingham isn’t just strong in academics, but also a star on the court. She reached 1,000 points this year for her basketball career and was named Most Valuable Player and an Item All-Star. Engelyz plans on studying pre-dentistry and attending dental school to become an orthodontist.
Delmi Chavez Nolasco, a Lynn English student, will be attending Endicott College and received the Learning and Leadership program full-ride scholarship for her academic success. She plans to major in biology.
Lynn English’s Crisbelle Duarte will also attend Messina College. She is a Peer Tutor, La Vida member, guidance aide and has a 4.0 GPA.
Lynn Classical’s Ivan Contreras Fuentes will attend Bucknell University, where he plans to study Electrical Engineering. Ivan was also selected as a Posse scholar, a full-tuition scholarship awarded to exceptional young leaders with outstanding academic and leadership potential.
Dania De La Cruz is a Lynn English student who will continue her educational career at Boston College. Dania is ranked 16th in her class of 572 kids with a GPA of 4.4. Dania is a council member of the Lynn Youth Adolescence club, a member of Upward Bound and a lead youth organizer for Neighbor-to-Neighbor. She is also a student council member in Congressman Seth Moulton’s cabinet.
Lynn Tech’s Ayden Frazier will attend Framingham State University as a Business major. He excelled at Tech’s Automotive Technology program while being a dedicated student athlete, balancing academics and sports.
Pamela Holguin-Collado, a Lynn English student, will head to Suffolk University where she will major in law. She plans to specialize in international law with a minor in philosophy. Pamela works four part-time jobs and is also a part of Raw Art Works. She has also already started gaining her college credits through an LEHS partnership with Salem State.
Lynn Tech’s Jomar Lara will be attending Union College and plans on studying psychology there. He has a 4.08 GPA and excelled in Tech’s Information Technology program. He is described as having intellectual curiosity that extends beyond technology into understanding human behavior.
Attending Simmons University, Emily Mateo plans to concentrate on nursing. She is an honor roll student at Lynn English and will be graduating in the top 1%. Emily is also a leader in the LEHS Orchestra and Concert Choir and has performed at the very selective Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra in Boston.
Marianah Pagan is a student at Lynn English who will be attending Northwestern University and studying political science. Marianah is ranked ninth out of the 572 kids in her grade with a 4.5 GPA. She is a member of the LEHS volleyball team, the Black Student Union and the Spanish American Club. She is also part of La Vida Scholars, Neighbor-to-Neighbor and Friends of Community Club.
Lynn Tech’s Megan Torres has a 4.2 GPA and is a carpentry student at the school. She will be attending Cornell University and is a member of the National Honor Society, music club, the inclusivity panel and the community service club. Megan has participated in both softball and swimming, and she is OSHA and lead-paint certified and works a cooperative education job assisting in the woodworking class at Marshall Middle School. She plans on studying Biological Sciences.
Jayden Tran is a Lynn Tech student who will be attending Northeastern University for Computer and Electrical Engineering. Jayden has a 4.3 GPA and works a cooperative education job at Bolduc Electric Inc. Jayden is also a member of the boys’ volleyball team and volunteered at the New American Association of Massachusetts. He also volunteers at Wah Lum Kung Fu and Tai Chi Academy, where he teaches and promotes awareness and appreciation of Chinese martial arts and lion dancing. He has received numerous honors for his performances, including gold medals at national competitions and competitor of the year awards.
