LYNN — Almost 80 aspiring homeowners took an important step toward achieving their dream of homeownership by attending the spring First-Time Homebuyer (FTHB) Class hosted by the Lynn Housing Authority & Neighborhood Development (LHAND) April 26-27.
The two-day workshop, held in partnership with Mayor Jared C. Nicholson and the North Shore Latino Business Association, was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to confidently navigate today’s complex housing market.
Attendees benefited from expert-led sessions covering a wide range of essential topics, including budgeting and credit, mortgage applications, home appraisals, inspections, property insurance, down payment assistance programs, and Massachusetts de-leading requirements.
The first day featured presentations from Ivanna Smalls of American Consumer Credit, Brenda Ortiz Peral of Salem Five, John Ladd of LHAND, Eileen Jonah of Century 21 North East and Emmanual Gonzalez of Gonzalez Legal, P.C. On the second day, participants heard from Geanie Melendez of MassHousing, John Carroll of ABC Home Inspection, and several LHAND specialists, each offering valuable insights to help attendees prepare for a successful homebuying experience.
“This program provides participants with the critical foundation and confidence they need to make informed, educated decisions in today’s real estate landscape,” LHAND Executive Director Charles Gaeta said. “Additionally these CHAPA-certified sessions expand the resources and programs available to these first-time homebuyers.”
“Our first-time homebuyer classes are an exciting first step for those entering the ever-changing real estate market.” said Ladd, who will lead the next FTHB class, to be held on June 14-15. The course is conducted in English, certified by the Massachusetts Homeownership Collaborative, and requires full attendance at both sessions to receive a completion certificate.
Space is limited, and early registration is strongly recommended. The cost is $50 per individual or $75 per couple (if purchasing a home together). To register or learn more, call 781-581-8621 or email [email protected].
